Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology is a subspecialty of Anesthesiology that focus on preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of adult and pediatric patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgeries and related invasive procedures.
Fellows in training as well as cardiothoracic anesthesiologists deal with various procedures that need anesthesia like: Aortic and Mitral valve replacement, Complex aortic arch replacement, Heart and Lung transplantation, Ventricular Assist Devices, Left atrial closure devices, Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, ECMO cannulation and management, Minimally invasive lung resections. These physicians interrogate and reprogram pacemakers and ICDs in the perioperative period. They also do Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography TEE to help with various invasive procedures.
